Cooldown
Cooldown (or CD) is a game mechanic used for all items that activate regularly.
In combat, items gradually fill up with a highlight at the rate of their cooldowns. Once the highlight is completely filled, the item activates and the cooldown resets.
Items that can only activate once, like most Gemstones placed in the backpack, Playing Cards, or Vampiric Gloves, will not reset once they have been activated, but their cooldowns can be affected in the same way as other items.
Things that affect cooldown
- Items with effects: Flute, Food, Mr. Struggles, Gloves of Haste, etc.
- Items with inherent effects: Blood Harvester, Claws of Attack, Crossblades, Holy Spear
- Socketed Gemstones: Topaz, Badger Rune
- Bags: Duffle Bag, Fanny Pack
- Heat - All items trigger 2% faster per stack.
- Cold - All items trigger 2% slower per stack.
- Stun - Pauses all cooldowns for the specified duration.
Formula
All speed-ups and slow-downs are additive with each other, but how the cooldown is affected depends on which is greater. The maximum CD increase/decrease is 1000% (10x) in either direction.
If the total amount of speed-up (Faster) is greater than the total amount of slow-down (Slower), use this formula.
Cooldown = Base Cooldown / (100% + Faster - Slower)
If the total amount of slow-down is greater than the total amount of speed-up, use this formula.
Cooldown = Base Cooldown * (100% + Slower - Faster)
Examples
- Garlic: Base cooldown of 4s
- 4 x Food items activating the garlic's : 4 x +10% = +40% faster
- 3 x Fanny Packs: 3 x +10% = +30% faster
- Gloves of Haste: +20% faster
- 5 Heat: 5 x +2% = +10% faster
- 10 Cold: 10 x -2% = -20% slower
- There is more speed-up (+100%) than slow-down (-20%), so the first formula is used.
4s / 100% + (40% + 30% + 20% + 10%) - (20%) = 4s / 180% = 4s / 1.8 = 2.22s
- Holy Armor: Base cooldown of 3s
- 2 x Gloves of Haste: 2 x +20% = +40% faster
- 50 Cold: 50 x -2% = -100% slower
- There is more slow-down (-100%) than speed-up (+40%), so the second formula is used.
3s * (100% + 100% - 40%) = 3s * 160% = 4.8s
